Asiana Airlines sells cargo unit to Air Incheon

Asiana Airlines has received final shareholder backing for the sale of its cargo unit to Air Incheon for a negotiated price of 470 billion won (US$328 million). Read More » The disposal of the carrier’s air freight operations was one of conditions set by the European Union for its approval of Korean Air’s acquisition of its former rival. Asiana will transfer 10 Boeing 747 freighters, one Boeing 767 freighter and approximately 800 employees to the new owner by next June 10. “We will strengthen our remaining passenger transport business with greater specialization, enhance financial stability through the proceeds from the sale and ultimately improve operational efficiency. We will continue engaging with employees transferring to Air Incheon to ensure a seamless transition,” an Asiana Airlines official told The Korea Herald.
