Garuda Indonesia and Japan Airlines to kick off partnership next month

Garuda Indonesia and Japan Airlines (JAL) have chosen April 1 as the starting date for their joint venture (JV) announced in October last year. Read More » The 34 route JV covers Garuda Indonesia operated domestic routes from Denpasar and Jakarta, JAL domestic routes from Tokyo Haneda and Narita and services the flag carriers fly between Indonesia and Japan. JAL serves Jakarta from Haneda and Narita and SkyTeam alliance member Garuda flies Denpasar-Narita and Jakarta-Haneda. It is the first time an oneworld alliance member has established a JV with a carrier from another airline alliance. JAL Mileage Bank frequent flyer members and GarudaMiles members can earn and redeem miles on each other’s flights. “We are confident this partnership will enable us to deliver important benefits to our customers and to grow business between Japan and Indonesia,” JAL senior vice president of route marketing, Ross Leggett, said. Garuda Indonesia commercial director, Ade R. Susardi, said: “Through our joint business partnership with Japan Airlines, Garuda Indonesia plans to strengthen its market share, especially in East Asia.”
