March 13th 2025
Singapore Airlines and Scoot will forbid the use of power banks onboard from April 1. Read More » “Singapore Airlines customers will not be allowed to charge portable power banks via the onboard USB ports or use power banks to charge their personal devices throughout the duration of their flights,” the carrier said in a Facebook post. Passengers may bring on board power banks with a capacity of up to 100Wh without special approval but charging devices ranging from 100Wh to 160Wh will require airline approval. Singapore Airlines and its LCC, Scoot, are the latest carriers in the region to ban the use of power banks on board. South Korea has banned power bank usage on all of the country’s airlines after a passenger’s power bank aboard an Air Busan flight departing Gimhae Airport for Hong Kong on January 28 caught fire. No one was injured in the incident, but the narrow-body was destroyed. In February, all Taiwan-based airlines introduced similar bans and last week Thai Airways International said the use of power banks will be prohibited onboard its aircraft from March 15.
