Air China reports 5.2% passenger decline for February

Air China flew 12.6 million passengers on its domestic, international and regional networks last month, down from the 13.3 million air travellers the airline transported in February a year ago. Read More » A factor that impacted the passenger numbers was the timing of the Lunar New Year. It began on February 10 in 2024 but started on January 29 this year, Air China pointed out. Domestic passengers were lower by 7.2% at 10.9 million, but international air travellers carried by the flag carrier increased 15.7%, to 1.4 million. Regional passenger traffic also was lower by 8.9% (349,100). Overall, available seat kilometres (ASK) contracted 2.4% compared with 12 months ago. Capacity on international routes was 17.1% higher year-on-year, Air China said, but domestic and regional ASKs were cut by 8.2% for the month. The Star Alliance member’s passenger load factor was down half a percentage point to 82.1% for the 28 days.
