Japan Airlines to acquire 17 more 737-8s; induct 787-9s into ZIPAIR fleet

Japan Airlines (JAL) has added another 17 737-8s to its March 2023 order for 21 of the type. Read More » Also, from 2028, the flag carrier will begin replacing its 767s that mainly operate out of Tokyo Haneda with 11 A321s. Its international fleet will include 10 787-9s from 2028 and 20 A350-900s from 2027. JAL said some of its 787-9s will be flown by its LCC ZIPAIR. The Traicy news has reported ZIPAIR’s fleet will expand with the addition of 10 787-9s retired from JAL. Deliveries are scheduled to start in 2027. ZIPAIR operates 787-8s with one-class 290 seat cabins. “Including the newly introduced 737-8s, the JAL Group will have approximately 90 aircraft in its fleet. It is preparing for the introduction of new aircraft with a flexible fleet plan. It aims to ensure growth by placing aircraft orders early in anticipation of growth beyond 2030,” a JAL statement said.
