Malaysia Airlines orders more 737 MAXs

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has put an order with Boeing for 30 737 MAX family aircraft with options another 30 of the type. Read More » MAG’s commitment is for 18 737 MAX 8s and 12 737 MAX 10s. The single aisle jets will replace the 737-800s being flown by the group’s Malaysia Airlines. “The selection of the 737 -8 and 737-10 reflects a careful evaluation of our long-term growth strategy, ensuring we have the right aircraft to meet evolving market demands,” MAG managing director, Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, said. “By balancing operational needs with an elevated travel experience, we are strengthening our commitment to delivering a seamless and enjoyable journey for our passengers.” Boeing senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing, Brad McMullen, said: “Adding the 737-8 and 737-10 [to its fleet] will equip Malaysia Airlines with the operational flexibility, environmental performance and additional capacity they need to better serve a growing number of passengers.” This new order is in addition to MAG’s leasing of 25 737 MAX 8s from Air Lease Corporation of which 11 have been delivered. The remaining 14 of the leased jets are due to arrive in Kuala Lumpur by 2027. The 737 MAX 10s will have lie-flat seats in business class.
