China Airlines firms up A350-1000 orders

Taiwan-headquartered China Airlines (CAL) has closed its deal with Airbus for 10 A350-1000s powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, a commitment flagged last December. Read More » Deliveries of the twin aisles will begin in 2029. The aircraft are to operate CAL’s routes to Europe and North America. They will join the 15 A350-900s already in the CAL fleet. The flag carrier has retained its options for five more A350-1000s. “Our investment in the A350-1000 supports our international growth strategy and reflects our commitment to improving the travel experience for our passengers,” CAL chair, Kao Shing-Hwang, said. “We are confident the A350-1000, with its superior range, fuel efficiency and comfort, will play a key role in transforming our long-haul operations.” Airbus executive vice president of commercial aircraft business, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, said: “We welcome China Airlines to our fast-growing family of A350-1000 operators. As an early adopter of the A350-900, China Airlines has played a pioneering role in embracing cutting-edge aviation technology.”
