Skymark Airlines starting international charter flights this month

Skymark Airlines will return to international flying in mid-month after a hiatus of five years, Nikkei reports. Read More » The carrier will begin operating charter flights from Kobe Airport to various Asian destinations after the airport opens to international traffic on April 18. It will then roll out regular international schedules over several years. Skymark served Tokyo Narita-Saipan until 2019 and suspended it after the outbreak of COVID.in early 2020. As a domestic carrier, Skymark has not reaped benefits from Japan’s booming international tourism recovery. In addition, the weak yen has driven up fuel, maintenance and other costs denominated in foreign currency. For the fiscal year to March 31, Skymark has forecast a 50% year-on-year decline in net profit to 1.5 billion yen ($9.95 million).
