Air India Express completing acceptance of 50 737s from former Boeing customers in China

Read More » Air India’s LCC has been receiving an average of two aircraft a month since September 2023 as the U.S. OEM clears a backlog of aircraft originally built for Chinese carriers. The white tail planes - built for other airlines but still in storage - have been diverted to Air India Express after Chinese carriers, including Shanghai Airlines, deferred deliveries following regulatory concerns about the safety of lithium batteries in the type’s’cockpit voice recorders. Air India Express has 41 of the 50 white tail planes available. Another four are to arrive at the airline this month and the final five in May and June. Deliveries of the remaining 140 737 MAXs ordered by the carrier will not start until fiscal year March 31, 2026. India’s leading airline, LCC IndiGo, has been entering one aircraft a week into service since the start of the year.
