Vietnam Airlines planning to commit to 50 737 MAXs after funding deal struck with leading bank

Read More » The airline said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the country’s top lender, Vietcombank, to fund the addition of the narrow-bodies to the flag carrier’s fleet. “The investment is aimed at expanding the short and medium-haul network in the key markets of Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia and domestic Vietnam where demand for transportation is growing rapidly and competition is increasingly fierce,” the carrier said. Vietcombank has previously funded the airline’s A350 and 787 purchases and also A321s, the statement said. Acquisition of the U.S. commercial aircraft will be crucial to reducing Vietnam’s large trade surplus with the U.S.; a position Trump said was a key factor in imposing tariffs of 46% on all Vietnamese goods exported to the United States.
