Airlines in the Philippines have cancelled flights to and from Bacolod and Iloilo after detection of a “moderately explosive disruption” at Mount Kanlaon on May 13. Read More » The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the volcanic activity generated a greyish voluminous plume that rose about 4.5 kilometres into the air. More Mount Kanlaon volcanic eruptions are possible, the institute said. AirAsia Philippines, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines have cancelled scores of flights into and out of Bacolod and Iloilo from Cagayan De Oro, Clark, Cebu, Davao, Hong Kong and Manila. Passengers are being offered rebooking on a new flight free of charge or accepting a refund or a travel credit. “In view of the ongoing Mount Kanlaon activity, we have adjusted flight schedules to ensure safety and well-being of our guests and crew,” AirAsia Philippines communications and corporate affairs head, first officer Steve Dailisan, said. “We are continuously coordinating with aviation authorities and will resume operations as soon as conditions permit.”
