The Civil Aviation Board of Thailand (CAAT) has announced that from May 20, air travellers in Thailand will receive better treatment if their flights are delayed or cancelled. Read More » The CAAT said if international flights are delayed for more than two hours, airlines must provide free snacks and drinks and offer free communication channels, including phones and emails. For delays longer than five hours, airlines must pay each passenger at least 1,500 baht (USS45) in cash, vouchers, credit card miles or the equivalent within 14 days. Additionally, travellers can cancel their travel plans and receive a ticket refund. For delays longer than 10 hours passengers must be paid between 2,000 and 4,500 baht depending on the length of the flight cancelled. If a flight is cancelled, the airline responsible must provide the same support as it must for flight delayed by longer than 10 hours. Airlines are excluded from the ruling if they remove the flight from their schedules at least seven days in advance. When aircraft are delayed on the tarmac, cabins must be ventilated and air-conditioned, passengers must have access to washrooms on board and also medical assistance. If the tarmac delay is longer than three hours and there is no take-off time, passengers must be allowed to leave the aircraft unless the disembarking affects safety or air traffic control.
