Asia-Pacific tops global table of international passengers flown in latest month

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released data for April that shows total demand measured in revenue passenger kilometers was up 8% compared with the same month a year ago, capacity was 6.5% higher year-on-year and load factor for the 30 days averaged 83.6%. Read More » International demand rose 10.8% compared with April last year, capacity climbed 8.5% and load factor was 84.1%. Asia-Pacific carriers topped the international passenger market charts with a 14.4% year-on-year increase in demand. Capacity in the region increased 12.7% compared with a year ago and load factor was 85.3%. “April was a positive month for travel. Growth strengthened, especially for international demand, with record load factors for the month,” IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. “As we gather in New Delhi for the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit, it is notable Indian domestic growth is running over 10%. Development of India’s air connectivity in recent years has been nothing short of phenomenal; making this year’s gathering a timely and powerful reminder to all that aviation connectivity drives growth and development.”
