Global airline association reports air traffic demand increased in July

Worldwide passenger air traffic was 4% higher in July compared with a year ago, led by the strong performance of international travel in the peak northern hemisphere summer, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said. Read More » International revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) moved up 5.3% year-on-year. Domestic RPKs delivered a more subdued 1.9% expansion rate. "It’s been a good northern summer season for airlines," IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. "Momentum grew during the peak season." Flight volumes were 2% better year-on-year after months of decelerating growth and carriers are positioned to take advantage of this market momentum in coming months," IATA said. In July, the Asia-Pacific recorded the second highest RPK growth in the world, at 5.7%, only slightly behind Latin America’s 7.2% expansion. "The region was the largest contributor to global air passenger gains and accounted for around 45% of the net increase in industry-wide RPKs," IATA said.
