United eliminates checked baggage rescreening for passengers from Sydney headed to the U.S. via San Francisco

Passengers travelling on United’s nonstop flight from Sydney to San Francisco no longer have to re-check their baggage when connecting onto a domestic flight to their final destination. The luggage checked in at Sydney can be picked up at their final destination. United said the international remote baggage screening (IRBS) initiative from U.S. Customs and Borders Protection (CBP), in partnership with Sydney Airport, BagCheck and Brock Solutions, was expected to save passengers 45 minutes and reduce the likelihood of missed connections. "We’re streamlining the international arrival process by eliminating extra steps for travellers to pick-up and re-check their bags on connecting flights," United vice president of customer operations strategy and execution, Jennifer Schwierzke, said. "Together with CBP, we’re testing this new process on routes between Sydney and San Francisco and plan to expand to additional international routes in the months ahead."
