Global air traffic demand continued growth trajectory in latest month

Worldwide passenger air traffic was 4.6% higher in August compared with a year ago, led by improved international travel in the peak northern hemisphere summer, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said. Read More » International revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) increased 6.6% year-on-year but domestic RPKs delivered a more subdued 1.5% expansion rate. August passenger load factor was 86%, a record high for any August month and was up 0.1 of a percentage point from 12 months ago. "Despite economic uncertainties and geopolitical tensions, the global growth trend shows no sign of abating. October schedules are indicating airlines are planning to introduce 3.4% more capacity to their networks," IATA director general, Willie Walsh, said. "Airlines are doing their best to meet travel demand by maximizing efficiency, making it even more critical for the aerospace manufacturing sector to sort out its supply chain challenges."
In the latest month, the Asia-Pacific recorded the fourth highest RPK growth in the world, at 6.1%, behind Africa at 8.9%, the Middle East at 8.4% and the Caribbean and Latin America at 7.5%. "Growth was driven by strong demand from China and Japan," IATA said.
