Air cargo volumes increased in latest month

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reports global air cargo demand rose 4.1% in August, but said despite six consecutive months of year-on-year growth, the latest data was a slowing of the sector from 6.1% a year ago. Read More » "Although the August figures are lower than July, cargo demand is showing resilience in a challenging global economic context," IATA said in its monthly cargo market analysis. "Air cargo has benefitted from a shift from sea for some high value goods as shippers try to minimize the risk of tariff changes," IATA director-general, Willie Walsh, said. "Growth patterns indicate some being diverted away from North America, fueling stronger growth for the Europe–Asia, Africa–Asia and Middle East–Asia trade lanes."
The Asia-Pacific recorded Cargo Tonne Kilometres (CTK) growth of 9.8% in the reported month, the second best performance after Africa (11%) of the six regions IATA monitors worldwide.
