New aircraft deliveries helped Air New Zealand grow capacity in August

Air New Zealand (Air NZ) said it grew capacity 2.6% in August as new aircraft deliveries helped offset the unavailability of some 787s and A320neos due to global additional engine maintenance requirements. Read More » The Star Alliance member said available seat kilometres (ASK) on its short-haul and long-haul networks rose 5.2% and 0.7%, respectively, in August compared with the same month in 2024. "Capacity increases were partially driven by the arrival of new ATR and A321 aircraft in the period," Air NZ said in its monthly traffic update. Prior to August, the Star Alliance member had reduced overall ASKs in 14 of the previous 15 months as it was forced to ground A320neo family and 787-9 aircraft for required engine inspections.
