Virgin Australia to tighten carryon allowance from February

Read More » Under the new allowance rules, economy passengers including Velocity frequent flyer program members holding red or silver status will be restricted to one standard sized carryon bag weighing less than eight kilograms and a small personal item. Currently, this category of VA passengers can take either one item, two small items or one item and a suit bag with a combined weight of less than seven kilograms, plus a small personal item. "We are making changes designed to improve overhead locker management to reduce delays, enhance safety for guests and crew and give everyone a smoother start to their journeys," VA said. From the same date, VA passengers travelling in business class and Velocity members of the gold, platinum or platinum plus tiers will be able to take on board either one standard bag weighing less than 8kg (up from 7kg), two small bags or one standard bag and one suit bag with a combined weight of less than 14kg, and a small personal item.
