Chair of IndiGo parent company InteGlobe Aviation, Vikram Singh Mehta, has promised the LCC will bring in an "external technical expert" to work with management to determine the root cause of the thousands of flights the airline cancelled last week. Read More » The expert also will assist with determining corrective actions to ensure the disruptions experienced last week never happen again. In a video message posted on social media, Mehta rejected claims IndiGo engineered the crisis, tried to influence government rules, compromised safety or that the board was not involved. The airline followed pilot fatigue rules as they came into effect and did not attempt to bypass them, he said. "The disruptions of last week did not happen because of any deliberate action," Mehta said. "They happened because a combination of internal and unanticipated external events, including minor technical glitches, scheduled changes linked to the start of the winter season, adverse weather conditions, increased congestion in the aviation system and implementation of and operation under the updated crew rostering rules," he said. "This combination of events pushed our systems beyond their limits. I know how much distress this caused, he said. "I want to say, very simply and very clearly. We are sorry."
