AirAsia X (AAX) has completed the acquisition of AirAsia group carriers from Capital A, bringing together all AirAsia-branded LCCs under a single airline platform. Read More » The deal was finalised on Friday when AAX issued 2.3 billion new shares to Capital A and entitled shareholders, and issued 606.1 million new shares to third-party investors via a private placement. The new shares were expected to commence trading on the Bursa Malaysia today (January 19). "This milestone marks a defining moment for the group," AAX chair, Dato’ Fam Lee Ee, said. "With the consolidation now complete, we have established a stronger, more streamlined aviation platform that is well-positioned for sustainable growth, operational excellence and long-term value creation for all stakeholders." Earlier, AAX confirmed it was considering a change of name once the transaction had been completed. However, it pushed back against reports a decision had already been made, noting åny change was subject to internal deliberations and approval from the board of directors, regulatory authorities and shareholders. "No definitive decision has been made, and no application has been submitted to the relevant authorities in respect of the proposed change of name," AAX said in a regulatory filing on January 14.
