Indonesia Air Transport ATR 42-500 crashes near Makassar

An ATR 42-500 turboprop operated by Indonesia Air Transport crashed on Saturday (January 17) while flying from Yogyakarta to Makassar. Read More » The aircraft, registration PK-THT, was on approach to land at Makassar Airport when air traffic control lost contact with the flight crew. The aircraft was found crashed near Mount Bulu Saraung. There were 11 people on board. Media reports said no survivors have been found by search and rescue teams. ATR confirmed the incident in a statement on its website. "ATR has been informed that an accident occurred in Indonesia involving an ATR 42-500," ATR said. "Our first thoughts are with all the individuals affected by the accident. The ATR specialists are fully engaged to support both the investigation led by the Indonesian authorities and the operator." Indonesia Air Transport operates charter services and limited scheduled services focused on serving oil and gas clients.
