Air New Zealand (Air NZ) said 83.1% of its flights arrived within 15 minutes of schedule in July, representing an improvement of 6.4 percentage points from 76.7% on-time performance in the same month last year. Read More » The improvement was achieved despite time lost due to weather-related delays increasing by 74% in the 31 days. "Compared with July last year, more of our flights arrived on time and we had 246 fewer cancellations, despite dealing with significantly more weather disruption," Air NZ chief operations officer for ground and in-flight, Kate Boyer, said. "We’re particularly encouraged to see improvements right across the network. International on-time performance improved by more than nine percentage points, while Auckland, our largest and most complex operation, improved by almost 10 percentage points." The Star Alliance member said it was working to reduce the impact of knock-on delays, or reactionary delays, when a delay to one flight impacts the schedule of another service later in the day. Air NZ said its automated rebooking technology, which gives passengers an alternative service following a cancellation, was now rolled out for those travelling on international flights.
