The Malaysia government has announced a security upgrade of the country’s international airports after accepting 17 recommendations from the Home Ministry and Ministry of Transport. Some of the measures included risk-based targeted screening, drug screening of flight crews and strengthening security checks for those working at the airport. Malaysia Airports welcomed the government’s announcement, noting the coordinated approach advocated in the recommendations addressed a longstanding challenge in managing security at the country’s airports. "For many years, national security matters have required us to respond to challenges that extend beyond the airport operator’s core mandate," Malaysia Airports managing director, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani, said. "This coordinated approach provides much-needed clarity on roles and responsibilities, ensuring that each agency can bring its respective authority and expertise to bear."
