Canada and Vietnam sign expanded air services agreement

The governments of Canada and Vietnam have agreed to expand their air transport agreement to include traffic rights for airlines of both countries to operate up to 14 passenger flights a week, up to seven cargo flights per week and unlimited fifth-freedom cargo flights between Canada and Vietnam. Read More » The expanded bilateral also allowed for direct flights between Canada and Vietnam for the first time, Transport Canada said. "With every new or expanded air transport agreement we are paving the way for more convenient travel and exciting new opportunities for investment, trade, and international collaboration," Canada Minister of Transport, Steven MacKinnon said. "I’m so pleased to see this enhanced cooperation between Canada and Vietnam, a growing market with a rich culture and history." Air Canada said it welcomed the agreement and was working with the relevant authorities to launch scheduled services to Ho Chi Minh City next year. "Vietnam is an important market in the broader Canada-Southeast Asia relationship," Air Canada chief commercial officer and president for cargo, Mark Galardo, said. "We welcome this expanded air transport agreement and look forward to obtaining the necessary government approvals to begin service to Ho Chi Minh City."
