A B777-200 powered trans-Atlantic journey from Amsterdam to New York has marked the commencement of the world’s first regular biofuel powered international services. In the same week that KLM launched its biofueled flights, Amsterdam based SkyNRG became the first biofuels supplier to achieve Roundtable of Sustainable Biofuels (RSB) certification for its entire “feedstock to flight” supply chain.

KLM wants to step up to continuous use of biofuels, but is contained in its plans because of the current high cost of biofuel.

At February’s Greener Skies 2013, organized by the Orient Aviation Media Group, industry leaders identified the cost and quantities of biofuels required to service airlines, as the two major barriers to getting biofuels on the wing full-time.
