May 25th 2018
Indian full-service carrier, Jet Airways, is negotiating a B737 MAX top-up order with Boeing. Jet Airways chairman, Naresh Goyal, told Bloomberg the airline’s MAX orders could exceed 200 aircraft. Read More » To date, the Mumbai-based airline has ordered 125 direct order MAXs and 25 on lease.
Jet Airways is scheduled to accept its maiden MAX 8 in early July, which will be fitted with 12 business class and 162 economy seats. “We expect 8%-10% fleet growth annually for the next five years, to 165-170 aircraft,” airline CEO, Vinay Dube, told Orient Aviation in April.
The airline’s fleet includes seven A330s (-200s and -300s), 10 B777-300ERs, 84 B737s and 18 ATRs (three 72-600s and 15 72-500s). The initial batch of 75 B737 MAXs will replace the carrier’s B737s by 2025. All additional orders will be for growth.
The airline is re-examining its long haul strategy. From November 5, it will fly A330-200s four times a week between Mumbai and Manchester, the 21st international destination in the carrier’s network and the fifth non-stop service to the UK. After Manchester is launched, Jet Airways will be the carrier with the largest Mumbai-UK network.
In line with India’s regional connectivity scheme, or UDAN, Jet Airways will commence flying three times a week on the following routes: Lucknow-Allahabad-Patna (ATR72 June 14), Delhi-Nashik (B737 June 15) and Nagpur-Allahabad-Indore (ATR72 June 16).
Separately, Air India will retire its three remaining A320ceo with dual landing bogeys by year-end. The three aircraft, with an average age of 24 years, were delivered to Indian Airlines for flights to airports with tarmac deficiencies.
