SpiceJet launching B737-800BCF cargo operations

India’s SpiceJet will launch cargo only flights in the third quarter of this year. Read More » The carrier has two B737-800BCFs on order that are scheduled to join the fleet from late this month. By 2022, SpiceJet plans to have 20 dedicated freighters in its fleet.

“Two planes have undergone conversion and will be joining our fleet by the third week of July,” a SpiceJet official told India’s Business Standard. He added the first B737 was undergoing conversion at Boeing Shanghai and the second was being prepared by Israel Aerospace Industries' Bedek unit.

SpiceJet plans to first offer domestic cargo flights and progress to international cargo services “in due time”. India lacks a dedicated cargo airline. The exception is Chennai-based Blue Dart Aviation, an operator of six B757Fs.
