Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways will launch a four-weekly Hong Kong-Seattle A350-900 service from March 31. Read More »

Cathay CEO, Rupert Hogg, said the Seattle route underscores the airline’s expansion strategy to connect destinations not otherwise served from Hong Kong and to link its home with technology hubs the world over.

In June, Delta Air Lines said it would cancel its six times a week Hong Kong-Seattle B777 route from October 4. The airline said the cancellation of the service was a “difficult business decision”.

In the interim, the Cathay Pacific Group is undergoing a period of unprecedented growth, with nine new destinations having already been announced for launch this year.

“We are very pleased to be introducing Seattle and to provide more convenience and choice to our customers. There are strong business, trade and cultural ties between Hong Kong and the city and we believe there will be considerable demand for both business and leisure travel on this new route,” said Cathay’s Rupert Hogg. “We have developed a significant presence in the United States and the launch of Seattle not only reaffirms our commitment to the important North American market but also to strengthening Hong Kong’s status as Asia’s largest international aviation hub,” the airline CEO added.

The four-times-weekly Seattle service will become the Cathay’s eighth passenger gateway in the U.S. and its tenth in North America. Cathay currently serves Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York (JFK), Newark, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver. A new Cathay A350-1000 service to Washington DC will commence on September 15.
