The stricken aircraft was B-6952 (MSN 5331), an almost six-year-old A320-214 owned by the carrier and powered by CFM International CFM56-5B engines.

“The aircraft departed from Beijing Airport at 08:17 local time bound for Macau. Initial reports indicate that the nose wheel bogey broke away during an attempted landing at Macau Airport at 11:15 am. The aircraft performed a go around and entered a holding pattern before the crew decided to divert to Shenzhen Airport, where the aircraft landed, ” Aviation Safety Network (ASN) said in its initial report.

All 166 people on board evacuated the aircraft via escape slides. There were no reports of injuries.

“During landing at Macau Airport, there was a suspected occurrence of wind shear and the flight crew judged the landing gear may have suffered damage,” Capital Airlines said in a statement. “The crew immediately took off again, implemented emergency procedures and decided to make an alternate landing at Shenzhen Airport.”

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has commenced a formal investigation into the “serious incident”. Capital Airlines is a subsidiary of HNA Group’s HNA Aviation.
