Singapore extends US$655 million in aid to aviation sector

The Singapore government's 2021 budget, handed down yesterday, included S$870 million (US$655 million) in targeted support to "preserve core capabilities and extend cost relief" for the country's aviation sector. Read More » "We will restore our physical connectivity and transform our aviation sector for recovery," Singapore deputy prime minister and minister for finance, Heng Swee Keat, said in his budget speech. The government will extend its job support scheme for aviation workers for another six months. It will cover 30% of workers' wages from April to June and 10% from July to September. The budget papers outlined spending for on-arrival testing and biosafety systems at Singapore Changi Airport to ensure the country continued to be a key aviation hub. Rebates on landing fees and rents paid for office space at Changi and Seletar airports also were included in the government’s assistance for the sector.
