Region’s leading airlines sign up for UNICEF’s global plan to combat COVID-19

Sixteen airlines, including Cathay Pacific, Korean Air and Singapore Airlines, have signed on to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund's (UNICEF) humanitarian global airfreight initiative to distribute vaccines, essential medicines and other essential supplies to fight COVID-19. Read More » "The participation of the airline industry is vital to support equal access to vaccines worldwide," UNICEF said yesterday. "The initiative also will act as a global logistics preparedness mechanism for other humanitarian and health crises in the longer term." Korean Air said it was "committed to participate in these humanitarian and relief shipments as long as necessary". Other airlines in the scheme are AirBridgeCargo, Air France/KLM, Astral Aviation, Brussels Airlines, Cargolux, Emirates Skycargo, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad Airways, IAG Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Qatar Airways, SAUDIA and United Airlines.
