U.S. Federal Aviation Administration orders inspections of 787 compression panels

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) intends to issue an airworthiness directive (AD) on February 19 that will require inspections of decompression panels on about 222 787 family aircraft. Read More » "This AD requires repetitive general visual inspections of the bilge barriers located in the forward and aft cargo compartments for disengaged or damaged decompression panels, reinstallation of disengaged but undamaged decompression panels and replacement of damaged decompression panels," the unpublished AD said. It is available on the U.S. government's federal register website. "This AD was prompted by reports of multiple incidents of torn decompression panels being found in the bilge area. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products."
