India’s domestic traffic declines mirror Asia-Pacific rivals

Indian carriers flew 7.7 million domestic passengers in January 2021, down 39.5% from 12.8 million in the same month last year, figures from the country's Directorate General of Civil Aviation show. Read More » LCCs dominated demand with IndiGo securing the largest market share, at 54.3%, or 4.2 million passengers, followed by SpiceJet (992,000 passengers and 12.8% of the market) with state-owned Air India in third place with 797,000 passengers (10.3% market share). SpiceJet had the highest load factor for the month at 76.6%, ahead of Vistara (70%) and IndiGo (69.3%).
