No New Year celebrations for Mainland carriers

China's airlines carried 3.57 million passengers during this year's traditional seven-day Lunar New Year holiday, down 45.2% from the same period in 2020 and 71.2% below 2019 levels, figures from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) published late last week reported. Read More » The average number of flights per day in 2021 fell 51.6%, to 6,727, compared with 2020. While Lunar New Year passenger traffic was weaker than previous years, cargo flights rose in 2021. The CAAC said there were 2,553 cargo services on international routes, as well as on Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan routes, in the 2021 Lunar New Year period, which was 212.5% higher than 2020 and 221.3% above 2019 levels.
