Hong Kong businessman increases holding in AirAsia Group to 9%

AirAsia Group said in a regulatory filing to the Bursa Malaysia yesterday Hong Kong businessman, Stanley Choi Chiu Fai, had purchased 167.1 million shares in the company for 114.46 million ringgit (US$28.3 million) through his private investment vehicle, Positive Bloom Ltd. Read More » The transaction meant Choi, who is a well-known poker player, has increased his holding in the airline group to 8.96%. Separately, AirAsia Group CEO, Tony Fernandes, said he was “optimistic" the company would meet its fundraising target of 2.5 billion ringgit. The first tranche of the private placement was completed last week and raised 250 million ringgit, Fernandes said, and added it reflected solid market and investor confidence. "We expect further clarity to be reached on all funding efforts by the end of March," he said.
