Asia-Pacific aircraft deliveries up by 42% in 2021

The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) latest financial monitor has reported airlines narrowed losses in the final three months of calendar 2020 due mainly to tightening their belts amid weak demand from COVID-19. But it was important to note revenues were still less than half of their levels in the first three months of last year, the global airline lobby association said. The report is based on a sample of 20 carriers. "Looking forward, we expect air travel demand to gradually revive in the second half of 2021 following a weak first half of the year," IATA said. Aircraft deliveries to Asia-Pacific carriers were forecast to increase by 42%, to 312 narrow-bodies and 66 wide-bodies in calendar 2021, from 222 narrow-bodies and 44 wide-bodies last year, consultancy Ascend said.
