AerCap confirms discussions to merge with GECAS

Aircraft lessor, AerCap, has confirmed reports of a potential US$30 billion merger with GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS). Read More » “In relation to recent media commentary, AerCap confirms discussions are ongoing between the company and General Electric with respect to GE’s GECAS business,” AerCap said in a regulatory filing to the Irish Stock Exchange. "The outcome of those discussions has yet to be determined and there can be no guarantee that an agreement will be reached. No further statements will be made by the company regarding this matter until the time of the conclusion of those discussions," the Dublin-based lessor said. GECAS and AerCap are the two largest aircraft leasing companies in the world. It was reported today that if the merger went ahead the enlarged company would own, manage or have on order up to 3,000 aircraft. AerCap’s CEO is Aengus “Gus” Kelly.
