Air China’s domestic traffic boost offsets 94% collapse in international travel

Air China said yesterday it carried 3.5 million domestic passengers in February, up 176.5% from the same month a year earlier. Read More » Compared with pre-COVID-19 levels, the February 2021 figure was down 54%, from 7.6 million passengers in February 2019. Domestic capacity, or available seat kilometres (ASK), rose 124.4% year-on-year for the month. ASKs were 38% below February 2019 levels. The domestic passenger load factor rose 12.3 percentage points in February, to 62.5% compared with the prior year, Air China said. The Beijing-headquartered carrier flew 18,100 international passengers in February, down 94.2% year-on-year as international travel remained constrained by closed borders.
