China Airlines bids farewell to 747-400 passenger fleet

China Airlines (CAL) said goodbye to its 747-400 passenger fleet on Saturday with a joy flight that included sky high views of Japan’s Mt. Fuji. Read More » The final 747-400 delivered to CAL, B-18251, took off from Taipei Taoyuan Airport at 1130 local time carrying 350 passengers. It flew for about five and a half hours towards Japan, circled Mt Fuji and returned to Taiwan, landing in Taoyuan about 1710. Passengers on the "747 Queen of the Skies Farewell Party" received limited edition souvenirs and Japanese-themed meals in all three cabin classes of the aircraft - first, business and economy. CAL's cargo unit will continue to fly the iconic aircraft, with 18 747-400F freighters still in the fleet. The SkyTeam alliance member has flown 747s since 1975, when it introduced the 747-100 to service at the airline. It also has operated the 747-200B Combi, 747-200B, 747SP and 747-400.
