China forecasts 10.7% jump in 2021 peak season domestic traffic

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said on Friday its domestic carriers would operate an average of 92,756 passenger and cargo flights a week during the northern hemisphere summer scheduling season - from March 28 to October 30. Read More » The planned schedule is up 10.7% year-on-year compared with the same month last year. Domestic passenger flights will increase by 10.6% a week, to 90,460, and cargo services will climb by 13.2%, to 2,296 a week, the CAAC said. It added 38 airlines planned to launch 322 domestic routes this year. The Mainland regulator said international flights would be about 3% of pre-COVID-19 levels. CAAC figures showed China-based and foreign carriers would operate 6,611 international passenger and cargo flights a week during the northern hemisphere peak seasons. Passenger and cargo services for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, which were listed separately, would be 40.4% lower, at 2,234 flights week.
