Mainland flag carrier records US$2.2 billion full-year loss for 2020

Air China yesterday announced a net loss of 14.4 billion yuan (US$2.2 billion) for the 12 months to December 31, 2020, compared with a net profit of 6.4 billion yuan a year earlier. Read More » Revenue was 49% lower, to 69.5 billion yuan, Air China reported to the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
"In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic brought great challenges to the civil aviation industry," Air China said in its financial results. "In 2021, as vaccines are gradually becoming available, the global pandemic may be alleviated." Air China added 14 aircraft to its operations and retired six aircraft in the reported 12 months, ending the year with 707 airplanes in its fleet.
