Taiwan launches first of several planned air travel bubbles

Read More » China Airlines 737-800 B-18660 took off from Taoyuan Airport as CI028 a little after 1445 local time bound for Palau International Airport. Palau president, Surangel Whipps Jr, was on board the inaugural flight along with 100 Taiwanese tourists. All passengers were members of tour groups. They had to arrive at Taipei’s airport five hours before departure to undergo pre-departure PCR testing for COVID-19. If they received a negative result they could proceed to check in. During their stay in Palau, the tour groups must follow fixed itineraries and stay at designated hotels. Initially, the new service is scheduled for two flights a week, but is intended to increase to 16 weekly. Taiwan also is working on an ATB travel bubble with Guam, local media reported.
