Mainland airlines to post US$4.6 billion loss for 2021 first quarter; domestic rebound maintains momentum

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said on Friday the country's airlines were forecast to accumulate losses of 30.05 billion yuan (US$4.6 billion) for the three months to March 31, 2021, a 13.2% reduction from 34.63 billion yuan in the same three months last year. Read More » The CAAC said while the industry continued to improve, sporadic cases of COVID-19 in individual regions in China had caused some fluctuations in regional air travel demand. Passenger traffic on international routes remained low. The Mainland regulator said flight bookings for May 1 or Labour Day, were significantly higher than the recent Ching Ming, or grave sweeping, public holiday. They are expected to exceed levels recorded in the 2019 Labour Day period.
