All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL) have reduced their May domestic schedules as the country battles an increase in COVID-19 infections. Read More » Under JAL's revised schedule, announced yesterday, the oneworld alliance member plans to operate 66% of its normal domestic flying pattern for the month, six percentage points below the previously planned 72% rate announced on April 8. "The JAL Group today announced more reductions on its domestic network between April 29 and May 31 as the carrier is expecting a slight decline in travel demand in response to the number of COVID-19 cases reported in Japan," JAL said.

ANA will operate 63% of its normal domestic network flight in May, down from a previously expected 71% for the month, announced in April. The Star Alliance member said the new schedule reflected changes in demand trends from COVID-19.

There have been more than 4,000 new COVID-19 cases in Japan in six of the past seven days to April 20, government figures reported.
