China Airlines narrows losses for first quarter of fiscal year

Taipei-headquartered China Airlines (CAL) yesterday reported a TW$1.02 million (US$36,526) net loss for the three months to March 31, 2021, an improvement from a TW$3.81 million net loss in the prior corresponding period. Read More » Operating revenue for the 2021 March quarter was TW$27.83 million, CAL said in a regulatory filing to the Taiwan Stock Exchange, down 14.5% from TW$32.56 million in the same quarter a year ago.
CAL's local rival, EVA Air, reported earlier this week it recorded a net loss of TW$2.2 million for the three months to March 31 compared with a net loss of TW$1.22 million 12 months earlier. Operating revenue was lower by 34.9%, to TW$19.68 million, EVA Air said.
