Kuala Lumpur International Airport reports 88.2% jump in passengers for May

Malaysia’s capital city airport transported 166,000 passengers in May, up 88.2% from 88,000 in the same month a year ago, Malaysia Airports' monthly traffic report showed. Read More » Despite the strong year-on-year improvement, the May figure was down 96.5%, from 4.7 million, in May 2019. "May 2021 continued to be challenging for the aviation industry as the resurgence of COVID-19 cases and renewed travel restrictions impeded the prospects of a traffic recovery," Malaysia Airports said. "The race to expedite the vaccination program to reach herd immunity, against the emergence of new strains, brought some optimism for normalisation."

In other airport news, Malaysia Airports said Runway 1 was back in service after it passed recent calibration and audit checks conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
