The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) is seeking public feedback to the proposed joint venture between All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Singapore Airlines (SIA). Read More » In early June, the Star Alliance carriers applied to the CCCS to establish a metal neutral alliance on flights between Japan and Singapore and also to allow cooperation on scheduling, pricing, sales and marketing, other commercial areas such as expanded code-sharing and special prorate arrangements. "CCCS is assessing whether the proposed commercial cooperation would infringe section 34 of the Competition Act (Cap. 50B). It prohibits agreements or concerted practices by undertakings which prevent, restrict or distort competition within any market in Singapore," the CCCS said. The watchdog’s statement said the ANA/SIA application noted the two airlines overlapped on eight routes, including nonstop flights between Singapore and Tokyo and nonstop/one-stop itineraries between Singapore and seven cities in Japan. The CCCS's consultation period end on July 12.
