Phuket launches quarantine-free travel for fully vaccinated international visitors

Four airlines operated international flights into Phuket on July 1, the first day of the popular tourist destination's reopening to overseas visitors. Read More » El Al, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines (SIA) all touched down in the island province yesterday. Under Thailand's "Phuket Sandbox" scheme, individuals fully vaccinated against COVID-19 are allowed to travel to Phuket without undergoing quarantine. Thailand’s prime minister, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, was among the dignitaries present in Phuket to celebrate the inauguration of the scheme. Phuket is the launch province for Thailand’s gradual reopening to foreign visitors. The Southeast Asian tourist hub plans to be fully open to international tourists by the end of October. “The reopening of Phuket signifies a crucial step forward in the revitalisation of Thailand’s tourism industry with the island serving as a pilot destination," Thailand minister for tourism and sports, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, said. "It is indeed wonderful to be welcoming visitors again. They can rest assured their safety and well-being is of utmost importance to Thailand."
