Airbus has announced it will increase production of its single aisle A320 family jet to 46 a month in 2016, from the current level of 42, while Boeing will up production of its B737 family from the current 42 a month to 47 every 30 days in 2017. Read More » The production impetus is being fed by huge demand for planes servicing short to medium distances, especially in the surging Asia-Pacific region. On current figures, the volume of orders at both major airline manufacturers mean many airlines will not receive their ordered planes until the end of the decade. The demand is not restricted to Toulouse and Seattle. Embraer, which produces passenger jets in the 70-130 seat market, forecasts Asia-Pacific customers will take delivery of 1,500 new jets in its market segment in the next 20 years. “Passenger traffic in the Asia-Pacific is mostly composed of secondary markets with low and medium demand densities of up to 300 passengers daily each way, “ said Embraer Commercial Aviation president and CEO, Paulo Cesar Silva, in an analysis of demand for Embraer jets that the company said are ideally suited to provide feeder service to large markets in the region.
